Edificio de Espana, located in Plaza de Espana-Madrid city center, was built in 1953 and at that time was the tallest building in Spain. Nowadays it is completely empty and looks like a huge mountain in the city center. The competition’s goal was to find new design solutions to recovery and give new life to this building, symbol of one of the darkest periods of recent modern history. The proposal was to empty some part of the this building in order to create new spaces for multi-purposes and functions according to the needs of the moment.
